2023-2024 Summer Assignments
Click the links below for specific course assignments (alpha order by subject).
All students are required to complete an English assignment, respective of their grade and course level (see assignments listed below). 
Please note: Many, but not all, AP courses require a summer assignment. If you have received notification that you are scheduled for an AP course, please use the link below to access summer assignments via the BDCHS AP website.

English Summer Assignments

All students are expected to complete summer reading for their respective English course in the 2023 - 2024 school year. 
BDCHS Summer Reading, 2023

All students in all grade levels should read The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. The text can be checked out from a library or purchased from any local or online bookstore. Used copies will be perfectly fine for use in class. 

In addition to reading the book, each student should complete the following based on their grade level and course selection:

English 1(9th grade)
Summer Reading Assignment for Incoming 9th Grade Students

English 2(10th grade)
Summer Reading Assignment for Rising 10th Grade Students

English 3 AND English 4 Honors
Summer Reading Assignment for all rising 11th and 12th graders

English 3 AND AP Lang
AP Lang: In addition to reading the schoolwide text, AP Lang 2023 Summer Assignments

English 4 AND AP Lit
AP Lit: In addition to reading the schoolwide text, complete the assignments found here


Mathematics Summer Assignments

Students are not required to complete summer assignments in preparation for Math courses in the 2023 - 2024 school year. 

Science Summer Assignments

Students are not required to complete summer assignments in preparation for science courses in the 2023 - 2024 school year. 

Social Science Summer Assignments

Honors level Social Science courses do not require students to complete summer assignments for the 2023- 2024 school year. However, AP courses require the completion of a summer assignment. Please use the link above to access the BDCHS AP website and AP Social Science Summer Assignments. Space is limited in many of the Social Science AP courses. Students will be notified of their enrollment in AP Social Science course. Students who are not notified of enrollment may choose to complete the AP summer assignment in the event that space becomes available in the desired course.  Completion of the summer assignment doe not guarantee enrollment in the course. Please contact your counselor with if you have any additional questions.
