SAT / ACT Testing

Colleges use numerous methods for judging how students will perform and one of those is the use of student scores on the SAT and/or ACT.  Most colleges will accept either, which is important for students to know since the tests have differences and someone may prefer one over the other.  Generally it is encouraged for a student to take one first, see how he/she did compared to entrance statistics at colleges of interest or other relevant standards (Bright Futures requirements), and then make a decision about taking the same or different test.

Since students may take the tests multiple times, it is important for students to begin testing at the end of the Junior year or the beginning of the following summer.

Two SAT and two ACT test fee waivers are available for students with Free/Reduced Lunch or who are part of a similar government subsidy program.  If a SAT fee waiver is used, a student is then eligible for up to four college application fee waivers which may be used only for participating colleges.  To obtain college application fee waivers, a student may log in to his/her College Board account, click on "My Organizer", then click "My Tests", and access "Completed Registrations".
