Credit Recovery / Grade Enhancement Options
BDCHS Policy: If students take a course at BDCHS, they are not allowed to retake that course at BDCHS. Students must therefore recover any missing credit via outside options.

Which is Better?
Florida Virtual School (FLVS)
- FLVS is an online school where students across the state and the world may take middle and high school classes. Students may register at flvs.net, create an account by clicking "Sign Up", and select the course he/she would like to take along with a start date.
- Please note that students are strongly encouraged to only take FLVS courses BDCHS does not offer, except if a student is retaking the course for credit recovery.
- Once a course is requested, a student should inform his/her school counselor. The student's school counselor must verify it and, if verified, FLVS will assign the student a teacher. Since the sign up process may occur well in advance of the student-entered start date, and knowing that this process may take up to two weeks, students should register for summer courses as soon as possible.
- There are a select few Florida Virtual School courses that specifically state “for Credit Recovery”. These courses are not NCAA approved.

Adult Education / Night School
- Certain schools in the area offer a night school program where students may recover class credit. All of the recovery classes are computer based, meaning a student would go to a supervised computer lab at the school, log on, and work on the course. Students may also log on at home and work on the course.
- The following website contains a list of adult ed/night school sites: http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/docs/00/00/09/39/R2_sites.pdf. Gaither High School is also a night school site. Bowers/Whitley and Gary Adult are NOT night school sites.
- Each school sets their own hours; however, most are open Monday through Thursday from ~ 5:00 - 7:40 pm
- Each night school program may have their own attendance policies (ex: one day a week, if at all)
- Most sites have specific subject area help on certain days of the week (ex: an English support specialist on Mondays), but students may go any number of days between Monday through Thursday
- Students are strongly encouraged to call the night school program first in order to determine hours of operation, when to stop by to enroll, program stipulations, and whether they offer the specific recovery course needed
- Once the student determines it will serve his/her need, the student must complete an application form with his/her school counselor and receive Principal approval. The student needs this form when beginning the co-enrollment process with the selected night school.
- Once enrolled, students should talk with the night school program to understand important dates, such as night school breaks and completion deadlines that, if not met, the student will be removed from the class and have to re-enroll
Which is Better?
- It depends on the student!
- FLVS: Since a student takes this outside of school, a student must be disciplined and organized to keep up with assignments and pacing; students may also have to complete discussion based assessments/assignments which requires one to communicate with other students
- Adult Ed: Offers more structure since students may go to the physical night school location during certain days of the week and there is a teacher supervising student attendance and progress; pretests are offered where students may test out of certain areas of the course
- Please note that students sometimes say Adult Ed allows them to recover classes at a faster pace with less stress
