Dual Enrollment - Frequently Asked Questions

The Florida Department of Education has a listing of some dual enrollment frequently asked questions at http://fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/5421/urlt/DualEnrollmentFAQ.pdf

The following questions are specifically in relation to BDCHS procedures for Dual Enrollment:

Transportation

If I am riding with another student to HCC, what do I need to do?
Both the student driver and passenger must each complete any forms with the Front Office and have verified permission from a parent/guardian for each student (one authorizing that the student can drive the other student, and the other notifying that the student is authorized to be transported by the other student).

Attendance and Scheduling

Do I need to check-out anywhere?
Students with their own transportation, or who are carpooling, must check-out in the Front Office and check back in when returning.

On Fridays where the schedule is 1-8, do I have to be here during blocks 1-4 if I have HCC?
No, students should arrive up to 15 minutes before his/her first BDCHS course.

During time periods that HCC does not have classes, but BDCHS does, what do I do?  Note: This will happen in the beginning of a semester if BDCHS classes start before HCC classes, and at the end of a semester when HCC classes are finished and BDCHS classes are still in session.)
Students will follow their schedule as usual.  If HCC is not in session, students who are at BDCHS will be assigned a location to work during the student’s typical HCC blocks.

Do I turn in my HCC schedule to anyone?
Yes, turn it in to the school counselor supervising dual enrollment right after you finish registering for HCC classes.  If this does not happen, your BDCHS schedule will not reflect you taking dual enrollment classes, and changing around schedules late may not be possible or will affect what HCC and/or BDCHS classes you can take
.

Will I will be able to take core classes at BDCHS regardless of when my HCC classes meet?
No, some BDCHS core subject area classes are only offered on a certain block or blocks.  If you schedule an HCC class for that time, you cannot physically go to the BDCHS class.  In order to take the class, you either need to adjust your HCC schedule to take the class at BDCHS, change your HCC schedule to take an equivalent class (if available) at HCC, or take the class on FLVS.

Textbooks

My HCC class requires textbooks, how do I get them?
Students should follow the instructions at http://bdchsstudentservices.weebly.com/textbooks.html

If BDCHS does not have the book I need, what happens then?
You will be issued a voucher that you would then bring to an HCC bookstore.  The voucher shows the bookstore that BDCHS is paying for it.  The bookstore will give you the textbook and a receipt.  Return the receipt to the BDCHS staff member who gave you the voucher.

*Typically only digital and hardcopy textbooks are covered with BDCHS funds.

If it turns out I do not need the voucher anymore, can I just throw it away.
No, please return it.

Do I need an ID to get textbooks?
If you are picking up books at BDCHS, no.  However, if you are picking up books from HCC, then you must have your HCC ID.  Some HCC bookstores will accept a license, but all accept an HCC ID.

Do I have to pay for my books?
No; however, students may have to pay for certain class material fees.

Other

What dress code is there at HCC?
Please understand you represent BDCHS, so abiding by the BDCHS dress code is the ideal option.

Can I bring food back to BDCHS?
Food from outside vendors must be eaten outside of BDCHS.
