Florida Virtual School (FLVS)
FLVS is an online school where students across the state can take classes. Students take classes at FLVS via their Flex option, which allows a public school student taking classes at a physical school the opportunity to take additional classes in an online format. Individuals take FLVS classes to meet the online course requirement needed to graduate, enhance their academic standing, explore fields of interest that the regular school does not offer courses in, or to recover credit. Students may sign up at flvs.net to create an account and select the course he/she would like to take along with a start date. During registration a student is asked if he/she wants to take the course via Florida Virtual School or Hillsborough Virtual School; students should select Florida Virtual School.

Please note that students are strongly encouraged to only take FLVS courses BDCHS does not offer, except if a student is retaking the course for credit recovery. If a student wants to take a course that is offered at BDCHS, he/she should contact his/her school counselor.
Once a course is requested, a student should inform his/her school counselor. The student's school counselor must verify it and, if verified, FLVS will assign the student an FLVS teacher. Since the sign up process may occur well in advance of the student-entered start date, and knowing that this process may take about two weeks, students should plan accordingly when registering for a course.
Special note: In a student's FLVS profile, make sure BDCHS is listed as the physical school or else BDCHS will not receive course requests or transcripts!
There are a select few Florida Virtual School courses that specifically state “for Credit Recovery”. These courses are not NCAA approved and also may not be accepted for Bright Futures scholarship consideration.
